This paper analyzes the use of the Zaychik-Christie mechanism (ZС) as a part of the electromechanical transmission of a tracked vehicle. Earlier the ZC mechanism was used as a steering mechanism for the T10, IS3 and other heavy tanks. A considerable disadvantage of this mechanism was that the ZC mechanism did not ensure a stable straight-line movement of the tracked vehicle. The existence of this drawback eventually led to an abandonment of the use of this mechanism by the developers of tracked vehicles. However, the use of the ZC mechanism jointly with two electric motors allows to get rid of this drawback and, in addition, to provide stepless change of speed of rectilinear motion and stepless change of the turning radius. This analysis made it possible to determine the requirements for electric motors operating in conjunction with the ZC mechanism, depending on the weight of the machine and external driving conditions.
