Superpower lasers are using the anisotropic KDP and DKDP crystals, which are difficult to machine. The resulting micro-cracks and subsurface cracks negatively affect the optical performance. The proposed approach makes it possible to solve these problems in machining the anisotropic KDP and DKDP crystals, which assists to improve the resulting surface quality. The article presents experience and research on machining the anisotropic KDP and DKDP crystals using various approaches and compares various approaches implemented in practice. Based on comparison and identification of the existing implementation advantages and disadvantages, the article proposes a new design of the crystals machining device.
