The article justifies the use of turning the chilled steel face technique versus grinding while high-accuracy machining of the steel blanks. The major requirements applicable to the machine tools used for turning the chilled steel face are described. We have compared the processing accuracy figures and velocity parameters when using the spindle mounts on various types of bearings applied for turning the chilled steel face. The choice of hydrostatic bearings is justified. We have formulated the demands for the machine slideways and suggested an implementation variation of the construction with hydrostatic guideways. The article analyzes the results of the hydrostatic and ball guideways vibration tests by means of the pulse disturbance technique, the machine stand having been chosen for turning the chilled steel face by virtue of the specified requirements.
