The article deals with identifying features of creating a trunk fiber-optic data transmission lines. Requirements for telecommunication networks are considered in the research process. The effect of attenuation and dispersion in an optical fiber on the length of the fiber-optic fiber regeneration section are studied. The use of light radiation as an energy carrier of fiber-optic channels is considered, the throughput of channels of the main fiber-optic data transmission lines is investigated. An assessment of the quality of information transmission by a binary conductor is carried out. As a result of the research, it was possible to establish that binary conductors have the greatest information and energy bandwidth. This leads to their widespread use in the trunk segments of fiber optic data lines.
