The issue of evaluating the effectiveness of filtering various media using wire meshes, having micron-sized cells was considered, taking into account the irregularity distribution of the flow of the medium over the cells. The advantages of using filter meshes are shown. On the basis of experimental data showing the distribution of cell dimensions, an integral curve was constructed, which was used to check for normality using the χ2 (chi-square) compliance criterion. The technique of obtaining the filtering characteristics of the mesh used to assess the effectiveness of filtering is shown, taking into account the uneven flow through the cells of different sizes. An example of the calculation is given for the quantitative and mass distribution of polydisperse powdered spherical acrylic particles.
